USING WOOD FILLER FOR OLD HARDWARE HOLES - tutorial

Are you looking to change some handles or knobs on a paint project? I have included photos and instructions in this article showing how I fill hardware holes so I can use a different style of handle or knob

No more excuses, simply start by filling your holes.
I use Elmer's Wood Filler in white. It does come in other
colors to match wood grain as well as a stainable option.

I make sure it goes deep inside and mounts up on the
outside. I'm trying to create a base to do the fine filling.

After 30 minutes or when it is hard, cut the tops off.
We'll see little air pockets in the hardened filler.

Now refill and push your finger gently into the filler
and spread it out as seen in the above photo.

Do not push your finger thru to the surface.
You're only trying to fill the little air bubble created by the first filling.

After another 30 minutes, sand using a 150 grit paper.
Always sand too much, it is easier to add more later then
to take away once you have start painting.

Do it again until it is perfectly smooth.
Fill, spread, wait, sand.
The actual work takes no time. Just the drying time.

In this close-up below you can see how it has filled in all the
imperfections around the hole created by the neck of the
 knob biting into the wood.

Another trick is to prime or paint after the first or second
filling. This offers you a greater visual as to how much more
filling might be needed. You can fill, spread, and sand after
 priming or painting with ASCP.

The key is to be patient and re-apply the filler as needed.

I hope this tutorial is going to be helpful to you?
