craft competition started last week so
I stopped in to see all the project for the week and to cast my vote.
There are 12 compeditors and each week there is a required subject to work with.
The first week brought many projects using graphics from the well known site
It just so happened there was a great lingerie chest revamp that definetly stuck out in the competition.
I love a great furniture redo.

Mean while I had a dresser stuck in the corner of my work room needing a little something special.
Here's what I did to it.
And here's the image I worked with.
After altering the printout into 9 reverse sheets from the computer, trimming it, taping it together and positioning it on the drawers it took an hour and a half to burnish the transfer onto the surface.
My hands and arms do get sore because I don’t stop once I start because
I don't want to risk the image shifting.
I had planned to use just the transferred ink image but once the drawers were in the dresser I wanted it finished in brown, so off I went to Michaels to get the pen I needed.
Michaels has an extensive line of Sharpie Markers for all sorts of projects.
I talked about using Sharpies when I first did my TRAVEL CHEST
Once finished I sanded all the drawer faces for an aged look.
Then they get waxed and buffed.
Different graphic transfer methods can be found here
On another note ...
interviewed me last week.
Head on over there to read all about it.

ReplyDeleteI especially love your close up picture of a drawer showing the pitting/rough face from age? Or from removing some veneer? Whatever the "cause," the patina is fabulous and the chosen image couldn't be better!

ReplyDeleteThat is BEAUTIFUL!!! wow!
ReplyDeleteYou are truly a master at redoing with all the splendid techniques you used. I wish I was digitally proficient as you to do what you did with that image. That chest is breathtaking. I have an old chest out in the shed that needs a new top. I want to use it for a vanity for our bathroom. Seeing what you've done has inspired me. First I have to find the chest under all whatever else is out in shed and work on it. Might have to wait til Spring now. What inspiration you've given me. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWhat alot of work - I love the way you fitted the design on the chest, around the handles etc. - but definately worth it, it's gorgeous !!!

Simply beautiful! I'm pinning this one for future reference!
ReplyDeleteInk transders? Where do I get these?
ReplyDeleteLove this piece!!!
ReplyDeleteToo funny! Great minds think alike! I used Sharpie for my transfer on this project http://www.dearemmeline.blogspot.com/2012/06/it-started-with-transfer-and-paint-pen.html
I had never seen a project done with Sharpies but since I've done mine this is the third post I've come across with people who have used Sharpies to fill in their transfer!! It worked so well for me and judging by the pure lovliness of this piece it looks like it worked well for you too! I just saw the other day that Sharpie actually has PAINT markers too! I just used a regular Sharpie marker but I might try the paint version next time!
You were as good a year ago as you are now! That means you started out amazing and have only gotten more amazing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up.
Bliss
I want to be you when I grow up. Can't wait to try your techniques!
